Bruxism is an unconscious movement of teeth friction. This grinding or clenching of teeth usually occurs during sleep and is also associated with episodes of jaw clenching.

Symptoms

  • Wear and abrasion of teeth
  • Headache and / or ears
  • Oral-facial pain (difficulty opening mouth)
  • Irradiating pains of the face and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) upon waking
  • Cracking jaws and disturbing friction noises

The causes

There is still little information on this, but anxiety seems to be a trigger that can magnify bruxism.
